Dental School Interview Prep: Traditional and MMI
How to prepare for dental school traditional interviews and MMI stations without memorizing robotic answers.

Know the format first
Dental schools may use traditional interviews, MMI stations, group settings, open-file review, closed-file review, or mixed formats. Your preparation should match the format.
Traditional interviews reward clear stories and fit. MMI stations reward structured reasoning, ethical balance, and calm communication.
Prepare stories, not scripts
Have stories ready for motivation, teamwork, conflict, weakness, leadership, service, and ethical judgment. Do not memorize full paragraphs.
A memorized answer often collapses when the question changes. A well-understood story can flex.
Dental-specific practice matters
Practice scenarios around access to care, patient anxiety, consent, cultural humility, rural health, insurance, fluoride, and professionalism.
Medical school interview prep overlaps, but dentistry has its own practice realities. Use dental examples where possible.
