Service should be legible
Good volunteer work shows consistency, humility, and proximity to real community needs. It does not need to be dental, but it should help the committee understand how you show up for people.
Food banks, free clinics, tutoring, disability support, public health outreach, and community programs can all be meaningful when the commitment is real.
Avoid checklist volunteering
A short burst of disconnected service right before applying can look like box-checking. Longitudinal commitment is usually more persuasive than a scattered list.
If your hours are low, start now and choose something you can sustain.
