Terms of Service

Last updated: July 6, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Merit(“Merit,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a web application that helps applicants build a dental-school list, track applications, and prepare their materials. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Merit.

1.What Merit is (and is not)

Merit is an informational and organizational tool for people applying to dental school. It uses artificial intelligence and publicly available admissions data to generate suggestions — a tiered school list, essay feedback, an application audit, practice interview questions, and draft emails.

Merit does notguarantee admission to any program, does not submit any application on your behalf, and is not a substitute for professional advising. All outputs are estimates and suggestions that may contain errors or out-of-date information. You are responsible for verifying anything important against official sources (AADSAS, the ADEA, and each school’s own admissions office) before you rely on it.

2.Not affiliated with ADEA, AADSAS, or any school

Merit is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), the AADSAS application service, or any dental school. School names, statistics, and prompts are referenced for identification and informational purposes only.

3.Eligibility and your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use Merit.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter and for keeping your login credentials secure.
  • You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.
  • One person, one account. Do not share your account or impersonate anyone else.

4.Your content

You retain ownership of everything you put into Merit— your stats, experiences, essays, notes, and other materials (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and transmit Your Content solely to operate and provide the service to you, including sending it to the third-party providers described in our Privacy Policy to generate AI outputs. We do not sell Your Content, and we do not share it with dental schools.

You are responsible for Your Content, including any information you enter about other people (for example, the names and email addresses of recommenders). Only provide such information if you are permitted to.

5.AI-generated output

Features such as the school list, tier classifications, essay comments, application audit, interview questions and feedback, and recommendation-email drafts are generated by AI models. This output:

  • May be inaccurate, incomplete, or not suited to your specific circumstances;
  • Is not professional, medical, legal, financial, or admissions-counseling advice;
  • Should be reviewed and edited by you before you act on it or send it to anyone; and
  • Reflects admissions data that changes between cycles — always confirm current figures with the school.

You are solely responsible for how you use AI output, including any essays or emails you choose to submit or send.

6.Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Merit for anything unlawful, deceptive, or that violates the rules of AADSAS or any school (including submitting content you present as your own but did not write);
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the service or its data;
  • Upload malware, or content that infringes others' rights or is unlawful; or
  • Resell, or provide access to, the service without our written permission.

7.Plans, billing, and refunds

Meritoffers limited free access and a paid subscription (“Merit Elite”). Merit Elite may begin with a free trial. After the trial, paid plans are billed through our payment processor, Stripe, on a monthly or yearly basis and renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel anytime from your settings or the billing portal; cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

If your trial ends without an active paid subscription, or if your subscription is cancelled or past due, your account may keep limited access to non-AI planning features such as viewing your school list and tracker, while AI generation and review features are disabled.

Prices may change with notice for future billing periods. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. If billing is not yet enabled, all features are provided free of charge during early access, and nothing in this section applies until paid plans go live.

8.Third-party services

Merit relies on third-party providers to function — including hosting and database infrastructure, payment processing, and AI model providers. Your use of Meritis also subject to those providers’ terms where applicable. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of third parties.

9.Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any suggestion will lead to admission or any particular outcome.

10.Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Merit and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of admission, opportunity, data, or profits, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or USD $50.

11.Termination

You may stop using Merit and delete your account at any time from your settings. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or to protect the service or other users. On deletion, we remove Your Content as described in the Privacy Policy, except where retention is required by law.

12.Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use Merit after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
